2017 Bantam Draft to WHL Teams - Wild Players show a strong presence

2017-05-04

Congratulations to the 2017 Bantam drafts to WHL Teams - Four Wild Players were named: Cadieux, Hein, Skinner and Saretzky.

SMHA congratulates the 10 Saskatoon Minor Hockey players that were drafted by WHL teams today.  For the 2002 birth year players, today was a big day across Western Canada and the western United States.

All players need to keep in mind that close to 25% of the players in the WHL were never drafted.  Being drafted offers a foot in the door but drafted or not, all players need to continue to work hard and strive to improve.

It is the WHL scouts jobs now to go find the Matt Calverts and Michael Ferlands of the hockey world that were not drafted at 15.

Today there were three players drafted from the Saskatoon Outlaws with two players from each of the Maniacs, Generals and Stallions.  One SMHA player played at Notre Dame this past season, making 10.

In total, there were 230 players selected today broken down as follows:

BC - 60 players (49 in 2016)
AB - 74 players (75 in 2016)
SK - 41 players (41 in 2016)
