Wild Zone Goalie Training

Who should Register?
This camp is for Wild zone goalies that are atom and peewee age.  However, we will accept eager novice aged goaltenders that are strong enough skaters to perform the drills.  Parents will be required to come onto the ice with their child to act as a shooter.

What is the training about:
15 one-hour on ice sessions with qualified instructors from Goaltec Saskatoon.  Goaltenders will be sorted according to their age and ability so that instruction can be tailored to the individual goaltender's skill level.

Why do you want to attend?
This camp will help young goaltenders to develop their fundamental skill set so that they are able to improve their level of play in a very demanding position.

For our goalie camp to be a successful experience for your child this year - it is important that you bring your skates, gloves, stick, and helmet to the rink to come on the ice and help.  This is the trade off for not paying $120 per hour for private instruction and what allows us to offer you this camp at such an amazing low price.  The ice time and instructor cost is not fully covered by your fees, but rather it is subsidized by the Wild zone.  We will only have 2 instructors from Goal-tec on hand.  They will bring their expertise, prepared to run the camp with pucks, drills, and activities but they can not run each station for all these kids by themselves.  It does not matter how much or how little you know about goaltending - you will learn lots by coming on the ice, listening to the instructors, and providing assistance and feedback to the kids.  You do not need to skate and shoot like Jonathan Toews to help out on the ice either.  We shoot for the goalies to learn movements, not to score on them.  Not only that, but you will dive into the mindset necessary for parents to have to support their son in their unique and sometimes lonely job on the ice.  I can't emphasize this enough -
it is impossible to have too much help on the ice.

There will be 2 dressing rooms available so there should be plenty of space for everyone to get dressed.  Please bring a water bottle for your son - we will not provide water bottles and do not want the kids to share bottles - there is always some kind of cold or flu bug going around.

Please make sure that you are there plenty early to help get your son dressed.  For some of our participants, this may be the first time they are wearing a full set of goalie equipment and it takes a while to get into.  If you are not sure about how to get your son dressed just ask - there will be plenty of experts on hand.

The goalies will be broken up into groups according to age, ability, and experience.  The groups will change from week to week depending on who is there for goalies.  We want the younger goalies to learn basic fundamentals and still have the flexibility to challenge the older more experienced goalies.

Thanks,
Rory
