SMHA Zoning Changes as of 2019-20

Changes to the zones will impact a neighbourhood currently in the Wild Zone....

2019-2020 SMHA Zoning Changes

Saskatoon Minor Hockey Association and its six geographic zones have been reviewing its current zoning over the past few months.  An imbalance in player registration totals within the current zone structure has developed and was an area of concern requiring changes.

The SMHA Board has approved zoning revisions effective with the 2019-2020 season, designed to accomplish the following:
  • Have all geographic zones with approximately 500 players per zone;
  • Minimize the amount of City of Saskatoon neighborhoods involved in the zoning changes;
  • Create short-term player registration balance, allowing SMHA and its zones to undertake a more thorough review of zoning over the next two seasons;
The following zoning changes have been approved for implementation for the 2019-2020 hockey season:
  • Westview neighborhood will become part of the Aces zone;
  • Nutana neighborhood will become part of the Aces zone;
  • Players residing outside City of Saskatoon boundaries, but within SMHA boundaries as designated by SHA (“acreage players”), will become part of the Aces zone;
  • Forest Grove neighborhood will become part of the Redwings zone;
Based on 2018-19 numbers, the new zone player registration numbers will be approximately as follows:
Aces – 530
Bobcats – 509
Flyers – 509
Redwings – 496
Renegades – 475
Wild - 486

Please see the 2019-2020 SMHA Zone Map.
