2019-20 SMHA Wendel Clark’s Community Assist Cup

New award for Novice and Atom teams:

The Wendel Clark Community Assist Cup is a new SMHA award that will be implemented in 2019-2020.

The premise is similar to the national Good Deeds Cup.  Wendel Clark’s Community Assist Cup will challenge all SMHA Novice and Atom teams to be creative and give back or “assist” their community.

The spirit of this award is to encourage and challenge our younger players to think of others in their community.  Hopefully giving back will become part of their lives moving forward.

The award will work as follows:

SMHA Novice and Atom teams will have from the start of the season until February 15, 2020 to submit a written nomination and video of their team assisting our community. Some examples of the many ways teams can assist the community:
  • Visiting seniors’ homes or children in the hospital
  • Assisting with a food drive
  • Helping those in need at Christmas time
  • Helping out at the SPCA
  • Undertaking a community clean up project
  • Raising funds and making a donation to a worthwhile community cause
  • Teams can be as creative as possible but the main theme is stepping up to help our community.
  • We are hopeful that participation in this award process will instill to many young people how important it is to give back when you are in a position to do so.
Wendel Clark’s Classic Grill will provide a congratulations letter and a team restaurant offer to all teams that submit nominations.

The submission selected as the winner of Wendel Clark’s Community Assist Cup will receive their names engraved on the Cup.  The Cup has been purchased by Wendel Clark’s Classic Grill and will be proudly displayed year-round in the restaurant.

Besides earning the “Cup”, the winning team will receive a free year-end banquet at Wendel Clark’s for all players and parents.  We are hopeful that the owners will be able to arrange it so that Wendel Clark can attend but this will be a long shot to guarantee annually.

The winning team will be informed at one of their ice times when representatives of SMHA and Wendel Clark’s will attend the team’s game or practice and surprise them in the dressing room afterwards of their win.

The winning team will also be recognized at the SMHA AGM along with the other major SMHA award winners.

Good luck to all SMHA Novice and Atom teams!

Video, photos and written submissions can be sent to smha@sasktel.net
