Novice A Wild Thunder - Wins Wendel Clark Community Assist Cup

Novice team gives back to the community...

Congratulations to the Novice A Wild Thunder for being presented with the SMHA Wendel Clark Community Assist Cup.  The team was surprised at their hockey practice at Merlis Belsher to be presented with their award and the news that they will get a team party at Wendel Clark’s restaurant to end off a great season.

Over the month of November, the boys participated in a team shoot-a-thon. They shot pucks in their backyard, garage or basement all month and asked family and friends for pledges or donations. Status updates were given every practice, unsolicited from the coaches.  In total the kids raised $1,000 and shoot over 12,000 pucks.  Before Christmas holidays, the team made a few deliveries.   Funds raised were used to purchase gifts for the Ronald McDonald House and they gave thanks to our community heroes and delivered chocolates to the Saskatoon Police Service, Saskatoon Fire Department Hall #9 and Saskatoon RCMP Depot.  Their last stop for a few team members that were in town before Christmas was to present a $500 donation to the Jim Pattison’s Children Hospital Foundation.  These boys encompassed the true spirit of this award to think of others in our community and to give back.  Hockey is much more than a game played on the ice, as a team we wanted to emphasize and teach some core values and behaviours that we believe are keys to success, on and off the ice.
