SMHA AWARDS PROGRAM 2020-21

SMHA is pleased to be able to continue with the tradition of recognizing our great people in Saskatoon minor hockey though the SMHA Awards program.  The 2020-21 season has been a challenge and different than anything we have ever faced.  Regardless, good people have stepped up all season and should be recognized.

Help SMHA celebrate our game and the great people we are fortunate to have in Saskatoon by nominating someone to your home zone today!

SMHA offers seven major awards annually to recognize all aspects of the game:

All Wild nominations are to be sent to secretary@saskatoonwild.com

Al Anderson's Source for Sports Coach of the Year Award
A great way to recognize your team's coach for making the 2020-21 season fun for your players regardless of the ups and downs we have faced;

Crestline Coach Volunteer of the Year Award
Team Managers and Team COVID-19 Reps have been extremely valuable this year for keeping parents and players aware of updates and for ensuring teams follow protocols and are safe - please take a bit of time to recognize the great work of your Team Manager or COVID-19 Rep!

Evan Thomas Memorial Sportsperson of the Year Award and Scholarship presented by Airline Hotels
This award takes off-ice contributions as serious as on-ice contributions. A nomination of a player from your team who epitomizes the character and selflessness of Evan Thomas should be recognized with a nomination!

Quinn Stevenson Memorial Referee of the Year Award presented by Al Anderson's Source for Sports
This award will recognize a deserving on-ice official and will be selected by the SMHA's Referees Division Committee

Rampage Coffee Executive of the Year Award
This brand new award for 2020-21 is designed to recognize a Zone or SMHA Executive member that has stood out for their contributions to minor hockey this season.  Zone COVID-19 reps have been very good this season and have greatly assisted SMHA in keeping our teams informed and safe.

Wendel Clark Community Assist Cup presented by Wendel Clark's Classic Grill
This team award is aimed at U9 and U11 teams.  With the restrictions from the pandemic, teams have not been able to get out and assist our community.  We are looking for our U9 and U11 teams to provide a submission telling SMHA what their team would do for our community once the pandemic is behind us and restrictions are removed.  All U9 and U11 teams that submit their "Community Assist" plan will be entered in a draw for the main prize from Wendel Clark's Classic Grill and will have their name etched on the Wendel Clark Community Assist Cup!

The best part is that all submissions will serve as a template for teams in the future to use as ideas as to how they will assist our community and give back.

SMHA encourages all teams to give consideration to submit a nomination for these awards to their home zone.

Awards Process:
  • Nominations accepted by zones until March 1, 2021
  • Zones will decide on their nominee for each award and submit to SMHA by March 15, 2021
  • SMHA's Awards Committee will review the Zone nominees and select the award winners for presentation by SMHA in April
