Current health orders extended to March 19th

Today, the Saskatchewan government extended the current health orders, including those applying to youth team sports, through March 19, 2021.

The same key elements remain in place for practices:
  • Teams may continue to practice
  • Maximum of 8 players on the ice
  • Maximum of 2 coaches on the ice * Exception - U7 teams may have up to 4 coaches on the ice
  • Scrimmaging is not permitted but teams may create competitions such as relay races, shooting accuracy competitions, shoot outs, best saucer pass over objects (judged by coaches out of 10!), etc.
  • SMHA RECOMMENDS (Not Mandatory) that on-ice coaches wear medical grade masks that can be purchased at local medical supply stores or online through sources like Amazon.  The key is that the packaging should state that they are Medical Grade masks.  Medical Grade masks significantly reduce the potential for transmission from a coach to a player or a player to a coach.
  • There are NO GUARANTEES that individuals will not be required to isolate. Below is directly from the Saskatchewan Health Authority:
SPORTS & ISOLATION

The definition of a ‘close’ contact in relation to sports is not the same as it is for the general public. Depending on the sport, your team may be required to isolate, even if all required measures have been followed. Each case will be handled individually as the circumstances may be different depending on a number of factors that Public Health will assess when they investigate.

  • All participants - players and coaches - must maintain physical distancing of 3 meters apart at all times - on the ice and in the facility.  It is vital that participants maintain 3 meters physical distancing if using a dressing room for staging or dressing / undressing
  • All on-ice participants - players and coaches - must properly wear a mask at all times while in the facility and while on the ice.
  • Teams must minimize time in the rink prior to and after their on-ice session.
  • Teams must be sure to allow space for the previous team coming off the ice surface and the team following so that 3 meters distancing is always in place
