WHL 2006 Prospects Draft - Wild Alum Shows Strong

2021-12-09

Congratulations to all of the 2021 WHL draft 2006 birth year prospects and especially our own Wild Alum players....

I am happy to report I was able to call 16 SMHA players today to congratulate them on the accomplishment of being selected in the WHL draft.
Here are some facts and figures from today:

Total Saskatchewan players selected – 41

Total SMHA players selected – 16 – 7 from the Blazers; 5 from the Contacts and 4 from the Riverkings

In total, the Blazers had 9 players selected today and the Contacts had 7 players selected.

First Time for a First Overall
Berkly Catton (Contacts / Redwings alum) – went 1st overall today to Spokane, marking the first time a SMHA player went 1st overall.  Jared Cowan, of Allan, went 1st overall in 2006 (the year Berkly was born ironically) while playing with the Contacts as an underage player – like Berkly did in 2020-21. Congratulations to Berkly!

SMHA had the 1st and 4th overall picks this year after having the 2nd and 3rd overall picks last year.
